Wantima Country Club History

Wantima Country Club was founded from a discussion in 1968 by Dr Ruth Smout, her husband and ten other couples that there should be a club where friends could meet. The land was bought from Mr. and Mrs. Wright who had held the property for 102 years.

Wantima Country Club Ltd was formed on 14th February 1969, Wantima meaning “hill” or “rising up”. The original farm house was converted to a club house and six holes of golf were established.
