Wantima Country Club is renowned for its commitment to Junior golf and prides itself on the fostering and development of young golfers through to adulthood.
One of our most notable golfers to come through the Wantima program is USPGA tour player Cameron Smith; 3 time Greg Norman Junior Masters Champion, 2013 Australian Amateur Champion, tied 4th in the 2015 US Open, tied 2nd in the 2016 Australian Open, 2017 / 2018 Australian PGA Champion, 2017 Zurich Classic, 5th in the 2018 US Open and Winner of the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii.
Another notable Junior who recently graduated is Jordan Rooke, he was the winner of the 2018 Greg Norman Junior Masters and is now playing in events nationally and has sponsorship from Titleist to assist him with his Golf.
Wantima are part of the Glass House Mountains Golf Zone Junior Association (GMGZJA) for Pennants. Wantima has been very successful in this competition over several years and was crowned Junior Pennants Champions in 2019.
Additional to the Cameron Smith Junior Classic, Wantima host a round of the GMGZJA Future Tour annually. At this time competitions are offered in the following divisions: 3 holes (short), 6 holes (short), 9 holes and 18 holes. While all 18-hole event players must have official GA handicaps, players in the other divisions do not require official handicaps and will be handicapped based on the Future Tour rules.
Juniors is open to all boys and girls aged between 5 and 17 years.
Juniors is broken up into two categories, Juniors (18 Hole Players) and Sub Juniors (9 Hole and Beginner Players). Main Competition timings for two groups are as follows:
- Junior members play in member competitions, and
- Sub Juniors play 9 holes on Saturdays starting at 11.30am
